I've been getting this more and more recently. This is the second or third time this week. Nothing to do with the day rolling over. That is set to 3am I think. I got this just now on a kanji quiz that I started an hour or two ago. I was starting the quiz for the first time after learning the terms.
Hmm - I cannot think of anything that I've changed that would do this, and I have not yet received reports from anyone else (except for one that was on the "day" line), but I will definitely be keeping an eye out on this.
I am not entirely sure about the best way to try and track this down, but I will be thinking on it, and hopefully a good debugging path will pop up for me. It could be server-side, or it could be something inside of your browser causing the session with the site (even if you are using the app) to restart too quickly.

I only see this on my android phone, using Firefox Mobile. It also only happens on kanji quizzes, which is the first quiz of the day for me. I don't think I've seen it on other types of quizzes. I also use a desktop browser occasionally but I don't think I've seen a timeout there. And I think I only do my kanji quizzes on mobile.
My guess is that, for whatever reason, you're losing your logged in session status, it's auto-logging back in, but the quiz was in the old session. So let's try to work with that hypothesis for now. If it's ok, I'm going to add a bit of debugging text onto your dashboard.
Unfortuantely, we don't have access to the web inspector in firefox mobile without doing a lot of work between your mobile device and a local desktop on the same network.
I'm not doubting that the session is being lost, but one of the data points is this one, where I got timed out during a quiz while I was actively answering questions.
You should have a little stripe on your dashboard (below the kaochan box) with the session id. No need to post it here (later, I might ask for it in a DM). Let's see if you notice a change in the value when it "resets".
Just had this happen on desktop during a vocab quiz. I was answering questions slowly while doing other stuff. I didn't pay attention to the session id for this one.
I also had this happen twice on firefox mobile over the past week. The session id did change both times.
Looking at the session id cookie on the desktop, it looks like it's set with a 3 day expiration. Is this expiration ever refreshed? Since it is a 3 day expiration, that would explain why it reset twice over the past week on mobile. And since the expiration is a whole number of days if I study at approximately the same time every day, then it is likely that I would run into the expiration often.
Not sure, to be honest. I'd give it through one reload and see if it gets fixed. If not, though, then it's most likely not related to the timeout on the cookie.
Note: I am about to leave on a trip, so while I will be doing minimal bug fixes, my responses will slow down for awhile.
So I triggered the issue again on desktop and since this is the first time since you changed something, I will test again in 3 days.
The cookie expired at 2025-07-21T18:29:05.140Z and it is the same cookie that I got 3 days ago. I made sure to quiz around that time, and as expected, the session expired. I got a new session that expires at 2025-07-24T18:29:17.791Z.
