I'm currently studing a list of N5 kanji
In my kanji quizes, simple word crosses appear (see picture), and I just don't get it.
1) Can somebody help me by explaining the 4 puzzles below?
2) Where can I find examples of the logic involved?
3) The kanji needed to solve the puzzles are currently beyond my understanding.
Are there constraints on the puzzles shown based on the kanji in my lists.
When working from n5 upwards, these puzzles are hard when they use higher level kanji
This question type tests your vocabulary mastery for kango that use a particular kanji character. For example, 自分, 分類, 部分, and 分解 are all words that use 分, so that is the answer to the first cross.
I consider these puzzles to be quite challenging, perhaps more challenging than they should be. I almost never get them all right on the first try, but that’s okay. Perfect scores are not what I’m here for.
Those look pretty cool, actually haven't seen them before.
I guess you're meant to work around the kanji you don't know? 3/4 of the answers are N5 and one N4. Not sure if that's supposed to be the case. You're not meant to know 提 (N1)
I'll give you bottom right : 席 (N3) <- 出 (N5) <- 提 (N1)
Edit: Took me a while to realise this is a Pro feature. Yeah, I'm not sure how they get generated.
If you're talking about your public N5 kanji list, that one has a bunch of non-N5 kanji in it. There's a few N4 (including the answer to the top-right puzzle), N2, N1 and some not JLPT kanji.
Still doesn't look like you have everything needed to solve every puzzle, idk.
That question type is going to be REALLY hard to get to pop up in N5. You need to have both the kanji studied as well as the words (it will not pull up words that you've never studied before), so it's one of those question types that becomes more frequent the more stuff that you study on renshuu :)
I understand this mechanism and it matches with my situation. Attended a Japanese school in Japan for 6 weeks, so I started using Renshuu to study words at an N3/N2 level. Not with much succes though, so I decided to re-tart from the basis: starting with N5 kanji.
The idea behind these puzzels is nice, so please keep them. But there is an opportunity for improvement:
Thanks for the suggestions! I will most likely not add them to work quizzes in the way you describe, as they do not (from a technical standpoint) fit into the way that word quizzes and schedules are set up. I've been toying with the idea of one day having a lot of mini "games" available, and this would fit quite well into that.
The words should be part of the answer panel, below the kanji :)
As to the instructions, I'll keep that suggestion in mind, thanks!
I know some work has been done recently on customizing focused review. I wonder if it would be easy to extend that to a focused review that was only simple crosses.
