What's the difference between Katakana and Hiragana?
There's a lesson on what those are precisely in Resources → Japanese Lessons, I recommend checking those out.
I believe Hiragana is used for native Japanese words while Katakana is used for writing foreign words. Also, Hiragana characters are more curved as opposed to the the more straight and sharp style of Katakana.
Hiragana is used for words that originates from japanese language while katakana is used for words borrowed from foreign languages.
