Do not use わ. It is a sentence ending particle with female coding, but has no other uses.

Use が after the subject. Use は (wa) after the topic. If both subject and topic are the same noun, then は wins.

People do use わ. Quite often even. The one with a ending particle with female coding, sure but the common one is just like a kind of light exclamation. There even another usage where it's used to express emotion (I'm still not quite sure about that one but you can found the definition in japanese dictionaries easily). Those are so common that I can at least hear them once per day through youtube or japanese friends. If not several times. To be honest, it's still confusing for me and each time, I'm asking japanese to explain that particule, they are unable to do so. But they still use it (regardless of gender).

As for the difference between は (prononced わ) and が, let's just say that there are multiple explanations. But even if you're still not able to use after that, don't worry too much. A lot of people are the same. Later, immersion (like listening to japanese content) will help a lot. Even if you don't understand perfectly how it works, as long as you immitate japanese, it will be good enough.

Also, there 2 threads about that in "Anything About Japanese". You can read them after that thread and if the explanation works, good enough. If not don't worry too much.
