I was listening to a recent song from a Japanese pop-rock band, and midway I realized that it sounded like a song from a smaller Japanese band released in 2014. I thought of saying [このは_の_でそうたい], but if I'm correct たい is only for things that look alike. What would I say in this situation?

The first thing that comes to mind for me is にこえます (聞こえる). You could also use 似ている. If you wanna go more casual, you could just use っぽい / みたい.

I could write some examples, but I'd rather find native ones, just because I don't feel confident enough.

Edit: I have confirmed たような is a thing people say for "a similar song", so ている should be fine. It's more like "it's similar" not really "sounds like" though.

Alright, found this: じようにこえるもうひとつのは, so にこえる works, and yeah, I guess I should have used the kanji, my bad.

●●のっぽいね ← this example confirms っぽい.

Edit: And it's みたい not たい, not the same thing :)

みたい isn't limited to physical resemblance at all.

I couldn't find a direct native example, so here are a few ways I'd say it:

このは○○の○○にている。

このは○○の○○みたいにこえる。

このは○○の○○っぽいね。

このは○○の○○みたいだ。

What you have has two main issues: 1. でそう doesn't work, 2. you don't use for みたい
