A leech is a term that is missed often enough that it might be worth hiding, dropping or changing. Right now on renshuu the only thing like this that I am aware of is the "My most missed terms" section.

I think it would be neat if a term was marked as a leech at some (maybe user-defined) threshold of mistakes (wrong x number of times in y time or attempts). This could leave some sort of mark on that term's page (similar to how hidden terms have the crossed out eye), and maybe the user could choose how to handle these. For example: if a term is a leech -> auto-hide, add to studypad, put in defined schedule/list, handle manually etc.

As someone who hides multiple choice and intentionally tries to hover around 80~85% accuracy and add more terms if it goes higher, I'm always making mistakes when I review, and I'd love to have more tools like this to handle them better.

This is an interesting idea. If implemented, I think the threshold would have to be user defined, and would most likely be even more complex than what you're suggesting (most likely, some users would want to have it not just be a flat number, but possibly be based on specific vectors, etc.).

I think the idea does have some merit, but is most likely not something I can consider in the near-future due to how many things have already been marked for development.

A user-defined threshold is exactly how Anki does it, so that works. If you keep studying a leech, Anki warns you at half the leech threshold rate. You can also manually reset leech status and turn auto-suspend on or off.

If this is added, I could see it supporting other features. Like, quizzes could display a list of newly leeched terms at the end and give you a chance to add custom nmemonics to each of them.

In that case, I would like to suggest something much simpler that would also be very helpful, that would be great with or without a full-blown leech system. Right now, "My most missed terms" is useful, but a little limited. I would like to see it expanded in two ways:

1) Being able to check most missed terms in the last 1, 2 and 3 weeks.

2) Making the number of displayed missed terms longer. Right now it's 10, but I don't think it would hurt to expand this a bit, since this never appears to the user unless they are actively scrolling anyway.

I am always hunting for terms that aren't sticking 1-2 weeks after I add them, so this feature would allow me to use "My most missed terms" much more regularly to find these. Usually by the time it's been around for a month, the leech has already done most of the damage it was going to do. Often these leeches are finally sticking by the time they appear on the list, and aren't even worth hiding anymore.

You can get close to this functionality with the right filter/sorting inside a schedule, but it's limited to that schedule, very slow to load on a large schedule (~60 sec total to apply both 'missed in the last week' and 'sort by most missed' on a 3000 term schedule), doesn't display the number of mistakes, and only has 1 week and 1 month filters.

You can set the number of items to 10, 20, or 30 in the widget options on the dashboard configuration.

Thanks, I didn't realize. That does make it quite a bit better, I should have checked. Still, I think it would be much more useful if I could see most missed in the past 1-2 weeks as well.

I like ur idea about leeches from anki! something that will help u now tho in addition to filter by week or focused review on missed is to make a unified schedule (deck) and then filter or apply on that. I have many thousands of terms and do hundreds a day of review, and even if i missed 100 in a week, the processing of that filter on server is about 1 second. u can still do ur learn and reviews in ur granular schedules but use the unified deck exclusively for filtering. remember that unlike anki, focused reviews do affect card scheduling, which u cannot disable.
