I think if のに is added, it means "however".

I was writen,
Changes to 'would have been better if A wasn't done' if A is in a negative potential form (なくてよかった)
should it rather be
A is in a NEGATIVE "CONDITIONAL" FORM (instead of potential form)
行 かなければ よかった. （I wish I hadn't gone.） Negative CONDITIONAL form よかった
行 けばよかった。（I should have gone)
